Kelly Khumalo speaks about homophobic after losing out at the SAMA Awards
Kelly Khumalo found herself in hot water with a homophobic outburst following her loss at the 29th SAMA Awards this past weekend. The gospel singer expressed discontent over losing the Album of the Year title to Ntokozo Mbambo, alleging that the awards were rigged.
In now-deleted tweets, Kelly claimed that Ntokozo didn't deserve the accolades, asserting, "Numbers don't lie, even Ntokozo knows that numbers don't lie! We are not scared of her. Fuseg SAMAS."
Insisting that Ntokozo's victories were the result of foul play, Kelly faced accusations of jealousy. In response, she launched into a homophobic rant against a social media user, stating, "Sit down Aunty. The day you decide whether you're a man or a woman, then we can talk!"
Despite later apologizing for her remarks, Kelly faced criticism for being a sore loser and lacking the grace to congratulate her competitor.
Ntokozo Mbambo emerged triumphant, securing three major awards, including Female Artist of the Year, Best Album of the Year, and Contemporary Faith Album of the Year. In response to her wins, Ntokozo expressed unexpected tranquility, stating, "I had no expectations, which is very weird because we're always teaching people to have faith. But, you know how God just works in mysterious ways, even in moments when scripture says he is faithful when you are faithless, and that is exactly what happened this weekend."
